The Blackwater Spruce Ranch is located north and west of Quesnel, BC. This
is a working cattle ranch with a lot of nature and history at its doorstep.
"Kilometer Zero" of the 350 km Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail
(AMHT) begins nearby at the junction of the Blackwater and Fraser Rivers.
The Blackwater River is alsoa world-class fly -fishing river.
If you are driving from Vancouver, take Highway 1 via Hope. Head straight
through Cache Creek where Highway 97 continues north through Williams Lake.
Once in downtown Quesnel (another 119 km/75 mi north of Williams Lake), go
over the Moffat Bridge and follow the road toward Nazko (see map).
At Bouchie Lake (10 km/6 mi), turn right and follow the road markers that
point toward the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail. The paved roadway turns
into a well maintained gravel road and makes it way up to the higher elevation
of the upper Blackwater Valley. The Blackwater Spruce Ranch is located 58
km from the turnoff at Bouchie Lake and approximately 30 km from the Km "0"
starting point for the AMHT adventure.
If you are coming from Alberta, take the Yellowhead Route (Highway 16) west
